$129,300 OTF Grant Gives Richmond Hill Lawn Bowling Club a Lift
Richmond Hill, ON – On Saturday, September 23, 2023, local MPP DAISY WAI met with the team at RICHMOND HILL LAWN BOWLING CLUB to hear more about the $129,300 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to repair and improve access to the clubhouse. The project, which is expected to be completed over the next few months, will give people in the community improved access to programs and events at the Richmond Hill Lawn Bowling Club for years to come.
“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to repair the clubhouse foundation and to widen the entries to the clubhouse so that wheelchairs and scooters can pass through easily is great news for many in our community,” said DAISY WAI MPP for RICHMOND HILL. “There are many in the community who will benefit, and it ensures that the space remains accessible for all.”
The renovation involved stabilizing the foundation by temporarily lifting the clubhouse 10’ to make room for the installation of new footings. In addition to the repairs, accessibility upgrades include widening the front and back entries and rebuilding the front and back decks with the addition of ramps. The renovations will lay the groundwork for other accessibility improvements (e.g., washrooms) in the future. The clubhouse is the hub for the delivery of outdoor lawn bowling programs in Richmond Hill and surrounding communities. It is also used by a variety of community organizations for celebrations and fundraisers. And thanks to the $129,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, people of all abilities can be active and connected through lawn bowling and social events.
"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Ron Charles, President/CEO, Richmond Hill Lawn Bowling Club. “This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made. The foundation repairs ensures that our clubhouse will be around for many more years to come. It supports our vision of a barrier-free club that welcomes everyone to become more active and connected through lawn bowling. We want to acknowledge the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their work in granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”
